Wrapping Up an Amazing Summer at Urban Coders Guild
The 2025 Urban Coders Guild Summer Coding Camp has come to a close, and what a summer it has been. Our classrooms were filled with curiosity, focus, laughter, and big ideas as students explored new skills and deepened their understanding of what it means to be a creator in the tech world. Whether students were returning for another year or joining us for the first time, they helped build a summer full of learning, growth, and community.
Here’s what our students were working on during the final week of camp:
Python Programming
Python students completed their final projects with support from our MIT interns. These projects brought together everything they had practiced over the past few weeks—variables, loops, logic, and more. Each student created something unique, solving problems and writing functional code that they could see run in real time. It was a proud and energizing way to wrap up the session.
Web Development
In the final week, students designed and built websites that reflected school pride and personal creativity. Using HTML and CSS, they created fully functional web pages that celebrated the people and places important to them. Their work demonstrated both technical skill and an ability to communicate visually and clearly—skills that will serve them well in future classes and careers.
Game Development
Game development students launched their completed 2D game, Sprite Flight, where players steer a spaceship, dodge obstacles, and collect points. They added features like score tracking and a restart button to improve the player experience. By the end of the week, students had started designing their own original games in Unity, bringing their imagination and skills together in exciting ways.
Cybersecurity
Students reviewed the summer’s key concepts through interactive games and online quizzes. They completed a final “Intel Briefing” challenge where teams analyzed real cybersecurity attack scenarios and explained how they could have been prevented. This activity gave students a deeper understanding of how cybersecurity affects the world around them—and how they might be part of the solution.
Special Guest Visit
We were excited to welcome representatives from Atlas School to our TU site. They met with students to discuss future opportunities in tech and education, sharing advice on how to stay curious, keep learning, and prepare for the next step after high school.
