We Missed You This Summer, and We’re Building What Comes Next

For many Urban Coders Guild students and families, summer coding programs have become something to look forward to each year. Our classrooms are filled with creativity, questions, new friendships and the excitement that comes from building something that did not exist before.

We know it was disappointing that we did not offer youth summer programs this year. We missed being with our students, too.

The pause gave our team something we needed: time to take a close look at our programs, learn from what we have built and prepare Urban Coders Guild for its next chapter.

As technology continues to change, our programs must continue to grow. We want to offer fun and welcoming experiences for students who are curious about coding and computer science, including those who may be trying them for the first time. We also want to provide more rigorous opportunities for students who are preparing for college and careers in software development, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and other technology fields.

Those goals are connected. Students should have room to explore technology without feeling intimidated, while also having access to the instruction, expectations and real-world experiences that can prepare them to pursue it seriously.

Urban Coders Guild will continue working to demystify computer science for students and families. We want young people to understand not only how technology works, but also where these skills can take them and how they can become creators, problem-solvers and professionals in a growing technology economy.

Our Five C’s will remain at the center of that experience: Comfort, Courage, Confidence, Community and Competency. Students need a place where they feel welcomed and supported, but they also deserve programs that challenge them, recognize their potential and help them build meaningful skills.

This fall, Urban Coders Guild will return with fresh after-school courses designed for beginner and advanced students. Applications will open soon, and course information will be announced through our Facebook page, other social media channels and website.

We are grateful to the parents, students, funders, educators, community advocates and partners who continue to believe in our work. Your trust allows us to make thoughtful decisions, strengthen our programs and keep building toward a future in which more young people can access the opportunities created by technology.

There are several ways to support this next chapter. You can make a donation HERE, sponsor a course or student experience, explore a strategic partnership, or share Urban Coders Guild with the students and families in your community.

We missed our students this summer, but we are excited about what we are preparing for them. We look forward to welcoming them back this fall.
